High in the hills of São Brás de Alportel, 340 metres above sea level,
Monte da Palmeira is a lime-washed 19th-century estate entre mar e serra, between the sea and the mountains. The entire estate is reserved for one group of up to ten guests at a time, so the house, gardens and pool are yours in complete seclusion.
The farmhouse dates from 1894 and sits among olive groves, fruit trees and gardens, bordered by an untouched nature reserve. Inside, simple Portuguese heritage meets treasures gathered on years of travel: lime-washed walls, hand-woven bamboo ceilings, an open fireplace and an eclectic mix of antiques, textiles and objects.
Five bedrooms give every guest a space of their own: three suites in the main house, a standalone guesthouse by the pool and a flexible studio. Generous living spaces bring everyone back together.
Outside, there are sunlit and shaded terraces for long meals, rooftops for sunrise and sunset, and quiet corners all through the gardens. Each October the estate’s olives are harvested and pressed into its own single-estate extra virgin olive oil, which is served at the table for guests.
Housekeeping, a personal concierge and the host’s own guide to the Algarve are all included. A private chef, cooking classes, massage and yoga can be arranged on request. Every stay is unhurried and shaped around its guests, with views across the hills to the sea.
